This week we are focusing on subtraction. We have provided 3 different methods of subtraction to choose from:

• Subtraction using counters and a screen (Up to 20.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8vrQBIQNG0
• Subtraction using an empty number line (Up to 100) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2s4vdj-D5U
• Subtraction using chimney sums, or the ‘column method’ (Past 100.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acrRSHg8140&t=4s

Children should have an idea of which method is best suited for them and which one they are most familiar with. The column method is the most difficult strategy and may take a lot of practice before understanding if children have not been working on this in class already.

Choose 1 method to practise. Tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be questions uploaded for children to practise that method. We also welcome you to help further you child’s understanding by giving them other questions and working it through with them. We look forward to seeing their work and giving feedback/support.
