Trinity News: 29th August 2022

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope that the week has gone well.  We have welcomed several new children to Trinity over the past few days many of whom have travelled from the Ukraine and are currently being accommodated on the ship in Leith docks.  We hope that everyone new to our school will soon feel very much a part of our school community.

As I am sure you will appreciate, managing this ever-changing situation takes a considerable amount of time and can mean that staff have not responded to or sent out information as quickly as they would like.  I do apologise for this and hope that we will see things settle in the next few days.  Some financial assistance for extra support has now been made available from the authority.  This is much appreciated.

Apologies for the length of this email but lots of information to share:

Thurs Sept 1st : Meet the Teacher evening from 6.00pm to 7.20pm.

The purpose of this evening is exactly as the title says – an opportunity for you to come along with your child, meet their teacher, see their learning spaces and hear about the year ahead.

6.00pm and 6.35pm : welcome from HT in the main hall – particularly relevant for those new to Trinity.  The same will be said at each time so simply pick a slot if you would like to come along.

6.15pm and 6.50pm : Class teachers will do a brief 15minute presentation in the classrooms.  Again, the same will be said each time so choose the time that best suits to fit in with siblings etc.

End of the day : now that we have returned to most, all on a Friday, classes finishing school at the same time, the playground is busy.  Our policy is that P1 – P3 children will be dismissed by their teacher to an adult : P1 from classroom doors, P2 and P3 from under the shelter.  From P4 upwards children are dismissed directly into the playground with the very clear message being given that if an adult is not there, and they have been told an adult will be there, that they do not leave the playground but return to the school building.   This week has shown how good children are at doing that.  Please make sure your child is aware of the arrangements for them at the end of each day.

Uniform and PE kit : we are asking all Trinity pupils to wear school colours only – black, grey, yellow and white.  Thank you for your support with this.  We also ask that no hoodies are worn to school.   With the rising cost of living, no space for storing or changing into PE kit and the amount of time away from learning that changing used to take up, we have decided not to reintroduce PE kits for the time being.   On PE days children are welcome to wear trainers and to bring a change of sweatshirt in their bag (this may be a hoodie if that is all that is available) if they wish.  We will review how this goes at the October break.

Volunteering in school : with COVID restrictions now a thing of the past we are delighted to welcome parent and carer volunteers back into school.  If you would be interested in helping out with reading groups, gardening, supporting in classrooms etc please get in touch with Mrs Berthinussen :

Kitchen update : Whilst works to the kitchen are being undertaken we do appreciate your patience and understanding.  Packed lunches will continue to be provided for this term at least.   We are aiming for hot lunches to resume from Mon Oct 31st.  In the meantime it is essential that packed lunches are ordered through Parentpay by the Wed of the week before.

Trinity Values : I am always delighted when I see or hear about our Trinity Learners being true to our values.  Last weekend saw five of our P5 learners – Anouk, Ellan, Ingrid, Isla and Ellie – take time to make and sell lemonade, baking and bracelets in the park and raise £121 for the charity Choose Love who are providing support for Ukraine.  A huge well done to the girls.
