Now, I am perfect.
We can become caught up in dwelling about things that have already happened or thinking about things that are going to happen but remember that right now is when you have choices about what you do.
Perfect doesn’t mean getting everything right all the time – it means listening to your body and soul’s and acting in a way that feels truly good for you.
Breathe in deeply through your nose for 4 counts.
Breathe out for 6 counts.
Close your eyes and notice what you can hear around you. There might be some familiar and some unfamiliar sounds. You don’t need to know what they are, just let them be there and know they belong, just like you do.
Breathe in and out gently.
Become aware of the rhythm of your breath.
Feel it as your rhythm.
Sometimes when we are very busy or life is feeling tough, we can feel somehow separate from ourselves. We just keep going and don’t notice that we are not speaking, feeling or thinking from our real selves. This is a really nice way for you to centre yourself and ‘bring yourself home’.
Breathe out all your worries and confusion.
Breathe in fresh life.
Every moment is a fresh opportunity and when we are carrying around worries, it doesn’t feel that way. They can weigh us down and make us feel stuck.
We can’t always solve the worries, but we can choose to give ourselves some distance from them.
So breathe them out, imagine them drifting away into the air and let them go.
Then breathe in fresh air and love the new moment that it brings you.
Imagine a place of complete safety
When we don’t feel safe, there’s a small part of our brain that works really hard to look after us. Unfortunately, it’s only really good at doing that in really dangerous situations and it can’t tell the difference between real danger and something else.
This can mean that when you feel embarrassed, hurt, sad, excited, cross, disappointed or some other emotion, this part of your brain senses danger and prepares to defend you by making you flare up in anger, get away as quickly as you can, become frozen or find some other way to make you safe again.
All of these defences make it hard for you to be connected with yourself and others and also makes it impossible to feel compassion, again for yourself or others.
So imagine you are somewhere that feels perfectly safe. It could be somewhere you know or somewhere that you’ve made up in your mind. Close your eyes and allow yourself to be there for a while, feeling completely safe and allowing your connection and compassion to unfold.
May my heart be kind, my mind fierce and my spirit brave
You are amazing. It might not feel like it sometimes, but you are. Without trying, you are amazing. This meditation is for adding a little to that. It’s about making a choice about how you want to be in the world.
There is always so much going on that we can forget that every moment is precious, especially now when many days are probably looking the same. In each moment, we have the opportunity to choose to be kind and think kindly, to be curious and interested and to try something different. Why not try it and see how you feel…
Welcome to the final introductory Kitbag session. We meet the last of the animals and take a journey into ourselves. Are you sitting comfortably? Then let’s begin…
