Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to the second part of the Spring term.  I hope the February break went well and our learners are ready and excited for the weeks ahead.

Building update – work has begun on replacing the roof in parts of our school.  The first few days  with builders on site have gone well overall although there is no doubt that we are facing a few challenges – the biggest possibly being the mud from shoes.   Matting has been ordered for outside entrance doors  and is now in place and many learners are happily taking off their shoes before entering classrooms in an attempt to protect carpets.   Please do bear with us as we manage working within, what is quite literally, a building site.  I will be attending regular meetings with the contractors and so far have found them to be extremely helpful and responsive.

Playground – I have been assured that the areas of the mound that have had to be removed will be reinstated as they were (hopefully in fact improved in a couple of ways).   At the moment the timescale for having our playground back in full use is looking like August 2024.   In the meantime we are having to make best use of the limited front playground and back playground areas.   

There is growing concern from staff, parents and carers over the rough play being shown by many of our learners.  This sort of play is not tolerated and we are regularly talking with children about what is and what is not acceptable, reminding them that there is no such thing as ‘play fighting’ and that pulling and pushing each other is unkind.   Your support in also talking with your children about this is much appreciated.

P7 show – Our P7 show takes place on Tues Feb 27^th in Trinity Academy.  This is likely to be our last show in the TA hall as works will be beginning soon on their full refurbishment.  It is, in some ways, the end of an era and I have no doubt that our current P7s, ably helped by our P6 choir, will make it a night to remember.   I am already feeling incredibly proud of them all.

Reminders

World Book Day – Thurs March 7th

This year we will be celebrating World Book Day with the theme of ‘Grow A Story’.  Everyone is welcome to come dressed up as a noun eg cat, footballer, dentist, Spiderman,  or an adjective eg red, happy, old! 

Parents/Carers evening and afternoon – Thurs March 7^th 5.00pm – 8.00pm and Fri March 8^th 1.00pm – 4.00pm 

Please book an appointment by noon tomorrow (Fri 23^rd Feb).  Appointments are 10 minutes in length and we ask that all parents / carers keep to time.

Maths event -please see below for information from the University of Edinburgh

In-person Maths Circle – Saturday, 24 February, 1pm – 4pm – James Clerk Maxwell Building, University of Edinburgh. The (in-person) Edinburgh Maths Circle is a drop-in session where children aged 5 to 16 and their families can join in with exciting mathematical activities, games and puzzles.  Light- refreshments are provided. You can stay as little or as long as you like. The event is free and there is no need to book a space. Please note that for safeguarding purposes, we ask that all participants are accompanied by a responsible adult.
