Trinity News: Monday 30th September

Dear Parents and Carers

It is lovely to see the sun shining this morning after yesterday’s wind and rain.  As we head into colder weather please do send your child to school with a named jacket as they will spend time outdoors.

Building update

I received the following yesterday from CEC.

I can now confirm that a contract has been signed with John G MacIntosh, one of the original main subcontractors, to complete the classroom works at Trinity Primary School.  The initial estimate for completion of works is six weeks. There is a formal pre-start meeting at the school on Monday and the school management will be regularly updated as the more detailed programme and schedule of works becomes available.

It is really encouraging news to have a finish date and we will all be keeping our fingers crossed that early November will see us fully back into our building.   The works to the kitchen remain a separate issue and we continue to thank our catering staff for their efforts as they cook off site and deliver hot lunches to our learners. .

Attendance and Lateness

Please do remember that everyday in school counts and that it is really important that our learners are in school and on time every day.  School starts at 8.45am for P3 – P7 and at 9.00am for P1 and P2.  We have a number of children who are regularly late and this is disruptive to them and also to others.  Latecomers must sign into the folder situated in the front entrance.   If your child is absent due to illness or for another reason we ask that school is phoned on 0131 554 2062 (press 1) and a message left on the answering machine.

Medical help

Several staff in school have basic first aid training and we deal with bumps,  minor cuts and children feeling unwell on a daily  basis.   In line with everyday counts we are trying to reduce the number of times a child is sent home unless deemed absolutely necessary.   We are also looking at how often ice packs are issued and only using them to reduce possible swelling and not as a comfort tool.   A wet paper towel can work wonders!

Health & Safety

We have seen an increase in the number of learners wearing hoop and dangly ear rings to school along with necklaces etc and we ask that these are avoided, particularly on PE days.

Mobile phones etc  reminder

It is preferable if phones, smart watches etc are not brought or worn to school.   If parents and carers feel strongly that their child needs to bring a mobile phone to school, or to wear a smart watch,  then these must be switched off and left in school bags during the school day.  School cannot take responsibility for any phones or other devices if lost, damaged or stolen.  They should not be used until children leave the school playground.  Thank you for your support with this.
