Trinity News: 8th January 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

A very Happy New Year to you all and a very warm welcome to Trinity Primary for those who have just joined our school.   We all hope you soon feel a part of the Trinity community.

INSET

At our INSET on Monday staff began discussions around the topic of progressive masculinity and the impact that elements of social media and expectations can have on how boys, in particular,  view themselves and how they should behave.  It is a very interesting topic and an area that is being developed across our Learning Community with support from progressivemasculinity.co.uk.   One interesting fact was that, as parents and carers, research shows that we stop physical contact with boys earlier than we do with girls – not holding their hands, giving them a cuddle, allowing them to cry and comforting them.   This can manifest itself in boys seeking physical contact in other ways – jostling with each other, play fighting, pushing etc.  It certainly gave us food for thought.

Our INSET day was also spent hearing from our Educational Psychologist about restorative practice in managing some of the behaviours of our learners.  This approach is in line with CEC policy and centres around giving everyone a voice and reaching a resolution for all involved.

Staffing update

We said goodbye to Paige Salter, our Early Years Practitioner, who was ‘on loan’ to us from Granton Primary.  Interviews for a substantive EYP will take place tomorrow.   We are also looking to recruit a Pupil Support Assistant with the advert going live in the next few days.

Attendance and time keeeping at school

Whilst being on time and in school everyday is a council wide priority we are aware that there are a growing number of learners exhibiting anxiety or who have additional support needs that can result in finding the transition from home to school challenging.    Our aim is to take a very supportive and individualised approach to this whilst also adhering to council expectations and ensuring that all our learners are registered correctly when in school.    We do operate a ‘late book’ and children not in class for registration at 8.45am or 9.00am are asked to write in this so that our office staff avoid contacting  parents and carers to say their child is absent.  As I’m sure you will understand this can cause distress for both parties if the child is in fact in the building.    The ‘late book’ is not in any way a punitive approach but simply a way of keeping learners safe.  If you have any concerns around this please do contact either myself, Ms Berthinussen or Ms McIntosh.  In the meantime we have decided to pilot only sending texts for absence and not for lateness.   Direct contact will be made with parents and carers for persistent latecomers with no apparent reason.   Thank you for your support with this.

Dates ahead

Please see below for dates for this term and for summer.  These maybe subject to change so please do look out for further infromation.  I hope the format is helpful.
