Trinity News: 10th May 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you have had a good week.   The sun is certainly shining this morning and is looking like it will continue to shine for the Trinity Fun Run tomorrow.  I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in our back playground and Victoria Park from 11.00am.   A huge thanks to our TPSA who, despite us having very limited playground space at the moment,  have ‘persevered’ and still managed to organise a fun event for the TPS community.  Please do come along and support.

Sports day – Friday May 17th

It’s that time of year again when we enjoy our annual ‘sports’ morning in Victoria Park.  This is designed to be a fun event with a much more competitive opportunity provided for P5 – P7 learners at our Athletics Festival on May 30th.   Everyone is very welcome to join us in Victoria Park from approx 9.15am until approx 11.20am.  At the end of the event P1 – P4 are able to leave with parents and carers if you wish them to do so.  Please do let your child’s class teacher know that they are with you.   P5 – P7 may be dismissed direct from the park if permission is granted by parents and carers.  A paper form to be signed and returned to school will be issued today.  All children without a parent or carer present or without permission will return to school to be dismissed at the usual time of 12.00pm.

Clothing : house colours encouraged

Snack : fruit will be provided

Please make sure your child brings a named, filled water bottle

P1 – P6 picnic to Aberdour : Wed June 19th 2024

Possibly one of my favourite days of the year!

Coaches are booked and we are hoping for another fabulous turnout of parents and carers to join us on our annual trip to the beach.   The full cost will be £7 per child.  This can now be paid on Parentpay or in cash to the school office.  As always we are operating our pay what you can approach as our aim is that no Trinity Learner will miss out on an opportunity for financial reasons.   The approach is difficult to set up on the Parentpay system so the minimum amount has been set as £3 and maximum at £10. We ask that everyone pays something as this also acts as permission.

Please use the form below to let us know if you are able to come along on the day – some spaces will be available on the coach.

Staffing update :

Felicity Martin who joined us as part time DHT in November has, unfortunately, been unable to return to work since January due to ill health.    She has now decided to leave teaching and will therefore not be returning to our school.  We all wish her good health and best wishes for the future.   Our senior leadership team will remain as Jacqueline Scott, HeadTeacher, Cheryl Berthinussen, DHT, Aimi McIntosh, DHT and Piers Steptoe, Business Manager.

Food waste

We are experiencing a significant amount of food waste in the dining hall at lunchtime.  Many children say that what is ordered for them they do not like and will not eat!   Please do check the menu with your child.  Staff are present to encourage eating.

Thank you for your support.  Here’s to a great fundraising and fun event tomorrow!

Trinity News: 26th April 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

Friday already and the sun is currently shining.  What a difference this makes!   Trinity learners have been making the most of the weather and getting outside with PE in the park, discussion groups in the outdoor library, a visit to Newhaven lunch club to chat with those who make use of it and a walk to Wardie Bay.  This week has also seen our choir perform in the Glee competition in Central Hall, Tollcross.  Whilst they didn’t win the competition, their enthusiasm and support for the other choirs was fabulous to see.   A huge congratulations to them and thanks to Aisling Griffiths and Graeme Blaikie for giving of their time to lead the choir.

Grow a Story

World Book Day in March saw us launch Grow a Story.   Every child from P1 to P7 has had the opportunity to write a story involving an explorer, a jungle and an item.  From each class 6 stories were then shortlisted and on Wednesday a panel of judges, made up of parents and staff,  read, deliberated, discussed and selected year group winners and our Trinity Writer of the Year.   Many thanks to those who offered their services.   The plan now is to have the winning stories published.  Winners will be announced at a special Trinity Together event later in the term.

Building update

Work continues to progress.  It is fascinating to watch the timber structure take shape,  with those of us on the top floor enjoying a birds eye view.   The biggest impact is the lack of playground space for nearly 600 children.  I know that many of our learners are missing the mound and the freedom to move from the front to the back playgrounds and have a bit more space from each other.   The contractors are hopeful that our full playground will be reinstated by late August.

Supported School Self Evaluation visit – Mon 29th and Tues 30th April

Next week we are looking forward to a visit from members of the Quality Improvement team at the City of Edinburgh.  Across the two days the team will visit classrooms and share learning, sample paperwork and learning records and meet with some learners, staff, parents, carers and partners who support our school.  This is an excellent opportunity to receive feedback about how well we are doing and what we can do to continue to improve.   To help us get some more feedback it would be much appreciated if you could take a few minutes to complete the form below

Trinity News : 28th March 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

I have had the perfect end to this term spending time with all our learners doing mini art as part of our Trinity Together Spring House event.  Art, Sport, Dancing and Games were enjoyed by everyone with lots of house colours being proudly worn.

I was also incredibly proud during our Rights Respecting Schools accreditation visit which took place today.    We now have our silver award and have been encouraged to go after gold as soon as possible.   We received extremely positive feedback  – a special thanks to Amber Ashraf and Laura Johnston who lead on this.  The term could not have ended in a better way!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Trinity School Community a very Happy Eid, Happy Easter, Happy Holiday time however you are celebrating.

Best wishes

Jacqueline Scott

SCHOOL RETURNS ON TUES APRIL 16th

Trinity News: 20th March 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you are all well.  It actually feels like we are quite literally ‘marching’ through March.  Next week sees the end of term three and we are already looking at staffing and class organisation for August.   Building works are progressing and we are hopeful that we will have our learning spaces back in full use for the start of the new school year.   Works on the kitchen are scheduled to be completed by December meaning, fingers crossed, 2025 will see Trinity Primary ‘fully functioning’ again.  In the meantime we continue to make the best of the situation.  A huge thanks to all of the staff and to yourselves for your understanding.

RED NOSE DAY triumph!

Our Trinity Learners raised the amazing total of £1758 on Friday as well as a further £500 through the sale of red noses (thanks to P3 for leading on this)    Watching our learners lead the event was fabulous with our four values shining through.    Many thanks for your support.

P2 show

P2 entertained packed halls with their fabulous show.  Their singing, dancing and narration was excellent and an absolute joy to watch.

Next it’s over to P4 who take to the stage on Thursday and Friday.  No pressure P4!

Grow A Story

All Trinity learners are currently involved with our Grow A Story project.  Stories from each class will be selected to go forward to our panel of judges who will have the daunting task of choosing a winner from each stage.  It would be great to have a parent/carer representative on the panel.  If you would be interested please drop me an email – jacqueline.scott@trinity-pri.edin.sch.uk

Raising Children with Confidence

This course will run next term lead by Kelly Tawake, PSO, and Sandra Brown, family support worker.  The course is designed to support parents and carers to confidently raise their children and offers opportunity for discussion and sharing of ideas.  Whilst over 40 expressed initial interest, less than 10 parents and carers attended the coffee morning to hear more about what is involved.  If you are still interested please contact Kelly on the email below as spaces are still available.

kelly.tawake@trinity-pri.edin.sch.uk

Free Meal Entitlement

The introduction of free school meals for all children from P1 – P5 has seen a decrease in the number of families taking up their free meal entitlement.  As this has a direct impact on elements of funding received by schools please do check if you are eligible and make an application.  The entitlement is for more than free meals.   Sandra Brown is able to assist if this would be helpful.

HWB survey

Our P3 – P7 learners are currently taking part in a survey lead by CEC to look at elements of Health & Wellbeing.  The results will be shared next term.

TPSA P1 and P2 Easter Egg Hunt

This will take place tomorrow, Thursday March 21st at 6.00pm, in the back playground of school.  Entrance can be made either through the school front door or through the gate from Victoria Park.   Please do purchase a ticket on ParentPay if your child would like to take part.

Can you help?

We are putting the final touches to our updated curriculum ‘map’ (shared at house coffee mornings) and are looking for help with the graphic design aspect.  If you have the necessary skills and are willing to support us with this please do get in touch : jacqueline.scott@trinity-pri.edin.sch.uk

Red Nose Day

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you so much for helping your children to support Red Nose Day.  I hope a fun morning was had by all despite the weather.  A bit of moving things around still allowed stalls and games to happen.   Please be assured that all the money raised on all the stalls will go to Red Nose Day.   A total will be shared next week.

Have a good weekend

There will also be items of preloved uniform.  Please take what you can use and make a donation if you are able.
