Trinity News: 11th January 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

A very Happy New Year to you all.  I hope that 2024 brings good health and happiness to everyone.   It was great to bring Trinity Together in the hall yesterday and to remind ourselves about what is important in our school.  Our four values of Respect, Creativity, Perseverance and Kindness remain central to what we want for all our Trinity Learners.   We welcomed back Carly Pattinson who has returned from maternity leave.

The term ahead sees our very exciting whole school visit to Shrek the Musical at the Playhouse Theatre (Wed Jan 24th).   It never fails to amaze me how quickly things seem to come round – the initial booking was made way back in May 2023.  Final arrangements are being put into place and will be shared with you shortly.  As previously mentioned the expected time for arrival back at school will be approx 6.00pm.

We are now in the position to ask for parents / carers to accompany the classes as helpers.    There will be no cost for this as we receive free places to enable support.   If you are available and would like to be considered (we may have more offers than spaces) please complete the form below or email direct to the school office on admin@trinity- pri.edin.sch.uk as a matter of priority.

We are still awaiting payment from some families.  The total cost for the ticket is £20 with transport being paid for by our TPSA.   Many thanks to them for this.  As always we ask that families pay a bit more if they are able, the actual cost or make a contribution depending on their circumstances.  Payment being made acts as permission for children to go – without payment of some sort a child will be unable to attend.

Theatre Etiquette or SHREKiquette as I have named it!

I shared with our learners yesterday our expectations regarding behaviour in the theatre.  Please ask your child what this means. Hopefully they will be able to remember some, or all, of the following –  no talking, no eating, no phones and no clapping at the wrong time!

Our first House Coffee Morning of the year will take place on Friday 19th January with Craighall leading the way.  Craighall parents and carers are invited to join their child in the hall at 9.00am as they share aspects of their learning.

Building update

We are still awaiting confirmation of a start date for the roof replacement.  Preliminary works are due to start today with the pruning of some playground trees and the installation of an alternative ramp in the shelter area.  It is hoped that full works will commence by the end of January to ensure completion for August 2024.

Thank you for your continued support

Best wishes

Jacqueline Scott

Trinity News: 8th January

Dear Parents and Carers

The final day of the term has arrived and there is a definite feeling of excitement across school – not just from the children I have to add!  Trinity Together this morning will see us gather in the hall to join in some Christmas songs and dances.  It’s always great fun and so lovely to see our whole school smiling and laughing together.

Please see below for a few bits of information:

House Coffee Mornings and Learning Chats

Our annual house coffee mornings will take place next term.  This is an opportunity to join us for a coffee and chat with your child/children about what they have been learning.  ‘Official’ invites will be coming your way but dates are as follows:

9.00am Fri Jan 19th – Craighall

9.00am Fri Jan 26th – Royston

9.00am Fri Feb 2nd – Melville

9.00am Fri Feb 9th – Argyll (please note this is a change of date from Fri Jan 12th)

SHREK – Wed Jan 24th 2024

Our whole school theatre visit is fast approaching and we are all very much looking forward to it.   We will be leaving school at approx 1.00pm with the show starting at 2.30pm.   Given it lasts 2hrs 30mins this means that the return to school time on the day will be approx 6.00pm.  Detailed information will follow in January.

Attendance

Thank you so much for your support in ensuring the vast majority of Trinity learners are in school every day when they are fit and well enough.   Our attendance  figures have increased and we are now in the green zone!   Our next challenge is to make sure everyone arrives on time.   School starts for P3 – P7 at 8.45am and at 9.00am for P1 and P2.  Every minute late impacts on learning and teaching and on office staff.

Building works

It is looking likely that works to replace the roof in areas of our school will commence in mid January.   These works will have some implications for the playground spaces.  Once I have final information I will be in a better position to share with staff, our learners and with parents and carers.

P2 and P6 Enterprising ‘Elves’

Very well done to both P6 and P2 learners for their recent enterprising projects.  Thank you to those who were able to attend and support.

Mobile phones

Many thanks to our Parent Council for their survey regarding the use of mobile phones.  Please note that whilst we do not ban mobile phones being brought to school they are not used at all in class, must be switched off and must remain in school bags throughout the school day including break and lunchtimes.   The bringing of a phone for before and after school use is a parent / carer decision and school cannot take responsibility for any phones that are lost or broken.   We are looking to arrange an event for parents and carers to discuss the safe and responsible use of IT.

Bikes / Scooters

Coming to school by foot, cycling or by scooter is actively encouraged.  For the safety of everyone we do ask however that children and adults do not ride bikes or scooters in the school playground.   Thank you

Project Pants and Christmas Food Hampers

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our two community projects.  Over 300 pairs of pants and socks were collected by our December birthday elves and Ms Tawake and Ms Brown delivered 20 Christmas Hampers to Trinity families. Our value of kindness shone through!

I hope that everyone in the Trinity community enjoys the festive season.    Please take time to switch off for a bit and enjoy the simple thing of being with family (along with the occasional bit of chocolate!)

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to a very happy, successful and healthy 2024 for us all.

With very best wishes

Jacqueline Scott

PLEASE NOTE school starts again on Tues Jan 9th 2024

Trinity News: 14th December 2023

Dear Parents and Carers

Christmas@Trinity is well underway and I hope that, so far, everyone has had fun.  Christmas Star Time was a great success with all our learners having a choice of what activity they would like to do.  There were stars being made, cards designed, dancing, football and sock Snowmen amongst other choices.

Thank you to the many parents and carers who were able to support our Santa Fun Run in Victoria Park.  A large number of house pennies were earned!

This week the premiere of our P1 Twinkly Nativity took place in the main hall.  The feedback was extremely positive and I was so proud of our youngest learners who sang confidently and with great enthusiasm.

The silent disco is in full flow!

The not quite so festive flu vaccinations went smoothly yesterday with the NHS staff praising everyone.

Our P7s enjoyed a fabulous time riding the waltzers, dodgem cars etc in Princes Street Gardens as part of Edinburgh’s Christmas.  Their faces and screaming said it all!

Today sees us join together for Christmas Lunch (thank you to the kitchen staff who, despite being ‘rehoused’ are still able to offer this) and P6 running stalls at the Lodge.

What’s still to come?

Fri Dec 15th : Christmas Music ‘Extravaganza’ at North Leith Parish Church.  Please do come along and hear about ‘What Christmas Means to us’.

Mon Dec 18th : P1 and P2 party – we’re ever hopeful a special visitor may make an appearance

P4 to Letham Park Care Home

Tues Dec 19th : P3 – P6 Christmas Activity Day

Thurs Dec 21st :  PJs and film day – no need to get dressed just come to school in pyjamas!

Fri Dec 22nd : Christmas Trinity Together Singalong

                             School closes at 12.00noon

Staffing update

I am delighted to let you know that following a very successful interview Aimi McIntosh has now been appointed as a permanent  DHT at Trinity.  Very much deserved.

We have welcomed back Claire Campbell from maternity leave.  From January Claire Campbell and Felicity Martin (part time DHT) will teach the current P2W class.

We are saying goodbye to Catherine Wilson, currently P2W teacher and to Susan Grant, one of our PSAs.  Both have been very much a part of our Trinity team and will be sorely missed.   We wish them the very best in the future.

Christmas Food Boxes and Project Pants

Thank you so much for the donations of food items and of pants and socks.  We are continuing to collect until Tues Dec 19th so, if you are able, donations are still very welcome.

Sandra Brown, our family support worker and Kelly Tawake, our PSO, are coordinating the food parcels and would really appreciate:

Crisps / Snacks

Christmas items eg selection boxes, biscuits, chocolate Santas etc

Tea / Coffee / Hot Chocolate

Diluting juice

Breakfast cereals / porridge

Tinned fruit

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing those who can manage at North Leith Church tomorrow morning.

Best wishes

Trinity News : 4th December 2023

Dear Parents and Carers

December is now upon us and with only three weeks to go until the end of term two there is lots going on at Trinity.  Our school Christmas art day and TPSA light switch on event were both a great success.  Thank you so much for your support and donations.  We are so lucky to have such a dedicated TPSA team who give of their time to make events, such as the light switch on, a lovely opportunity to get together as a school community.   All the money raised comes back into the school to everyone’s benefit so please do get involved if you are able.    Thank you too for the support with the purchasing of Christmas cards etc.  Sales have raised £1079 for school funds.

Leg it to Lapland – all week

Please see the attached letter regarding information about this.  The aim is to earn ‘miles’ through being active so please do encourage your child to walk / cycle/ scoot to and from school.

Christmas Star Time – Wed Dec 6th at 2.00pm

The making of a Sock Snowman is again proving very popular.  Donations of buttons, scrap material and bags oif rice will be much appreciated.

If you are planning on joining us on Wed afternoon please do check in with your child as to what activity they have signed up to do.

Santa Fun Run – Fri Dec 8th at 9.10am

Our annual Santa Fun Run will take place in Victoria Park on Friday morning.  Please do come along and help us use our Don’t Give Up Dino learning power to earn house pennies.

Reverse Advent Calendar : Project Pants

Our December birthday elves will be collecting donations on a daily basis.  Pants, vests and socks are all much appreciated.

Climate Justice March

The attached flier provides information about a march on Dec 9th which some families may wish to support.   Our Trinity Takes Action climate march was a great opportunity for our learners to have their voices heard.

SHREK : Jan 24th

As you are aware this year we are not attending the theatre at Christmas time but are very much looking forward to our whole school visit to see SHREK the musical on Wed Jan 24th.  The cost of £20 is a much reduced rate for the seats that we have been allocated.  A ticket has been purchased for all Trinity learners – please do let us know as a matter of priority if you do not wish your child to attend.  As always we ask that parents / carers pay a donation of what they can afford, the full amount or a bit extra if they wish.  The cost of transport will be paid for by the TPSA.

Best wishes

‘Smokefree Generation’

Dear parents and carers,

The UK Government are currently consulting on the additional steps which they can take to create a smokefree generation by tackling youth vaping Creating a smokefree generation and tackling youth vaping: your views – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

This consultation seeks feedback on the proposed measures, to inform future legislation. On youth vaping, there are a number of options proposed, to ensure the UK Government and devolved administrations take the most appropriate and impactful steps, building on existing evidence.

The consultation closes on 6 December 2023 and you can respond via the online survey.

Christmas Food Parcels

Dear Parents and Carers

There is no disputing the fact that some families, for various reasons, are facing financial hardship at the moment.  As you know Christmas@Trinity in school activities will be free of charge for all Trinity learners.  We are also aware however that some Trinity families may find it helpful to receive a Christmas food parcel containing basic food items plus some Christmas extras.  Our family support worker, Sandra Brown, has suggested some names for us already but we believe there may be more families who could do with a bit of a help at this time of year.

Acts of Kindness are being shared by our Trinity Learners at the moment and helping those who belong to our Trinity community is an act of kindness we can extend.

If you would find a Christmas food parcel helpful please do let us know either by phoning Sandra Brown on 07746 895595 or emailing Sandra or school direct on the email addresses below :

sandra@citadelyouthcentre.org.uk

Kelly.tawake@trinity-pri.edin.sch.uk

(Kelly Tawake is our Pupil Support Officer)

I cannot stress enough that any requests will be treated with dignity and in confidence so please do get in touch if, together,  we can help.

Best wishes

Trinity News: 27th November

Dear Parents and Carers

Please see below for Christmas@Trinity information.    A copy is also attached as I know some families find it helpful to print and put ‘up on the fridge’.

With the festive season fast approaching I am very aware that financial circumstances can make this a stressful time for families.   We are very grateful to the Trinity PSA who have agreed to fund all in school Christmas activities to make it a ‘free Christmas@Trinity’ for everyone.

Whilst we hope that everything will be lots of fun some of our learners can find the change from routine to be unsettling.  Staff are preparing for this and will adapt and support as required.

Christmas jumpers etc are welcome to be worn from the 30th.

Please do not feel under pressure for your child to wear one every day, to have more than one, to wear one at all!    P6 will be holding a Christmas jumper swap / donation table on Fri Dec 1st.   Donations are very welcome.

Reverse advent calendar – this year we are supporting Project Pants and asking for donations of new pants (or socks – adult or children) to support a clothing bank run by Edinburgh City Mission.    Cash donations are also very welcome – P7 will use any money donated to purchase pants.
