Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you had an enjoyable weekend.  What a difference a few hours can make as temperatures now head towards double figures.  

Let’s start as we meant to go on! 

At Trinity Together on Friday I shared with our learners some New Year traditions from around the world and spoke about starting as we mean to go on.   Two of our P6 learners reminded everyone about the importance of not dropping litter and of not wasting food.  When ordering school lunches or making a packed lunch please do check with your child that they will eat what has been ordered / packed as a lot of food does end up in the bin.  

Reminders :  

Only water is allowed during class time.  Fizzy drinks are not permitted and any other juice is limited to breaktimes only.

Chewing gum is not allowed in school.

Snacks

We continue to be concerned about both the amount of snacks, and the sugar content,  of what a significant number of our Trinity learners are eating.  It would also appear that several of our older learners are buying snacks on the way to school and we do wonder if parents and carers are aware of this?    Wellbeing Wednesday has now replaced Fruity Friday as a way of teaching our children a healthy approach to eating.  Supporting this through a donation of £10 to purchase healthy snacks for the winning class is much appreciated.  

Use of X (formerly Twitter)

There has been growing concern from staff, parents and carers about our use of X (Twitter) as a means of communication.  Following discussion we have decided to cease using this from Friday January 17th.  Unfortunately,  whilst this will mean that weekly photographs, reminders etc will no longer be posted on this platform we hope that our school community will understand and support this decision.    The digital team at City of Edinburgh council are currently looking into alternatives and I am hopeful that we will have a different option available in the not too distant future.  Photos of learning will be available to be viewed at parents’ / carers’ evening and afternoon in March.

Building works

Works to replace the roof of the kitchen are expected to start during the Feb week with a completion date of June 2025.  The car park will, once again, be out of bounds.   We continue to be extremely grateful to the kitchen team who have managed a very long decant without too much disruption to the lunch service.

Do you have photography skills?

On chatting with other schools about how they manage school photographs some have moved to an in school approach as a means of rasijng funds for school.   If you have photography skills and could help with this please do get in touch.

Burns Celebration

Can you play the pipes?

Our P7 families are invited to a Burns Ceilidh on the evening of Thurs 23rd Jan.  Having previously had two members of staff able to play the pipes we now find ourselves in the position of having none.  Any offers to come along and play on the Thursday evening at 6.30pm would be so welcomed.

NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. programme

During the week beginning Jan 13^th we will be participating in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Programme.  Speak out. Stay safe. is a programme for children aged 5-11 which aims to help children both understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.   The programme has been approved by the City of Edinburgh Council.

This child friendly programme is aligned with the HWB curriculum and consists of age appropriate presentations and supporting classroom based activities.  The content is delivered in an engaging and interactive way with the help of the NSPCC mascot Buddy.

Parents and carers are asked to let school know if their child may have experienced anything (in the past or happening now) which may mean they need extra support before, during or after taking part in this programme.

Feedback survey for pupils aged 7-11

The NSPCC would like to gather feedback from pupils aged between 7-11 about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme to gauge their learning. This will be voluntary and children can still take part in the programme if they don’t take part in the survey.

• All survey questions are multiple choice and focussed on the programme.
• The survey is anonymous and confidential.  However, if in the process of completing the survey, a teacher becomes concerned for a pupil’s welfare (e.g., through something a pupil says) we will follow our school’s safeguarding procedures.
• If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please inform the school office by email to admin@trinity-pri.edin.sch.uk

Happy New Year and welcome back to term three.    I hope you were able to enjoy the festive season and managed to spend time with family and friends.  It is lovely to see our learners back in school today and ready for the term ahead.

House Coffee Mornings and Learning Chats

Many of you will be familiar with our annual House Coffee Mornings and Learning Chats.  These provide an opportunity for parents and carers to sit with their child / children and talk with them about what they have been learning, how well they are doing and what they can do to improve whilst at the same time enjoying a coffee or tea and a biscuit wrapped in the correct house colour.  Our Argyll House Captains are on the search for a green wrapped biscuit that isn’t mint, as mint does not seem to be a favourite!

This year we have decided to try holding the coffee mornings on two Fridays only – please note this is a change to previous dates.

Friday 24^th January

Communication

As you are aware many schools, including ourselves, currently use X (formerly Twitter) as a form of communication to share what our learners are learning.    Concern has been raised about the use of this platform and we are hoping to move onto using an alternative in the not too distant future.  The digital learning team within CEC are supporting this.

Dear Parents and Carers

Another Christmas@Trinity comes to an end and  I hope that all of our learners have enjoyed the various activities.   I spent a fun filled time with P7 at Winter Wonderland as they experienced the waltzers. dodgems, tecnho, the helter skelter etc.   I think the record was eight consecutive rides! Our choir have been out singing at the airport and local care home and were a credit to themselves and to the school, yesterday saw everyone ‘relaxing’ in pyjamas whilst watching a film, we’ve had Christmas Star Time, a Christmas picnic lunch,  the silent disco, parties and art.   A huge thanks again to our TPSA who have supported all the in school activities and allowed it to be a ‘free’ Christmas for our families.

I often reflect on how lucky I am to have the privilege of being HeadTeacher at Trinity and would like to take this opportuity to thank all our learners, staff and families for helping to make our school the great place that it is. We really are a Trinity Team.   

I hope you all have a very happy festive season with family and friends and wish you all the very best for a 2025 filled with fun, laughter and love.

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you are all well.  There are certainly  various bugs doing the rounds and we are seeing a lot of absence – both amongst our learners and staff.  Hopefully everyone will feel a lot better by the time Christmas comes!

Reverse advent calendar – Project Pants

Our Christmas ‘elves’ have been visiting classes each day and collecting the donations of pants and chocolates.  Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our reverse advent calendar.  Last day for donations will be Tuesday 17^th December.

Fruity Friday becomes Wellbeing Wednesday!

Our Health and Wellbeing P7 leadership group have been researching the success of Fruity Friday and have decided to move to Wellbeing Wednesday.  This allows for more time to survey what is being eaten and to announce the winners at Trinity Together on Friday.   If you are able to ‘sponsor’ Wellbeing Wednesday by donating £10 to the school office, the group will use donations to purchase healthy snacks for the winning class.  

Safe parking

Some of you will have seen our learners reminding people not to park on the zig zag lines.  Please take time to park legally and keep all our children safe.

Fairtrade stall

Following the success of last week’s Fairtrade stall (everything sold out very quickly) the P7 Global Citizens group have prepared some more hot chocolate cones and have purchased some different felt products – all sustainable and ethically produced.

These will be on sale tomorrow at 11.45am in the front playground.    Please note the stall is cash only.

Christmas@Trinity

There has been more Christmas fun at Trinity this week.   The silent disco is proving very popular,  Star Time yesterday was a great success as was Christmas lunch today.  Many thanks to all the school staff, catering staff and volunteers who made both these events possible.  

Tomorrow will see us gather as Trinity Together over in Bangholm sports hall.   Parents and carers are very welcome to join us.  We hope to start by 9.30am and finish about 10.30am.  Please be aware that there are limited seats available as most of the seats are being used for exams in other parts of the building.

Dear Parents and Carers

What a bizarre weekend of weather with the snow leaving as quickly as it arrived!  Please do make sure your child comes to school with a suitable jacket (named) as they will spend time outdoors.   Any items of lost property, without a name,  can be found under the shelter in the front playground.  Named items will be returned to children.

Recycled uniform items

As part of their Rainbow School learning about sustainability a group of P5s will run a recycled uniform stall from 11.45am  on Fri 29^th Nov in the front playground.   Cash donations for any items that you can use are much appreciated.  If you have any items of good quality, no longer needed school uniform, please hand into the school office.

Ethical and FairTrade stall

This year all of our P7 learners are part of leadership groups taking forward the seven commitments of Rainbow School – Equalities and Diversity, Outdoor Learning, Sustainability,  Leaders of Learning, Global Citizens, Health & Wellbeing and Trinity Together.   

On Friday 6^th December from 11.40am our Global Citizens group will be running their first Ethical and FairTrade stall selling Christmas decorations to parents and carers.   Please look out for more information.  

Jam Jars

Please support the TPSA by filling a jam jar with items such as sweets, small toys, hair accessories etc and handing into school before Thursday.  All of the jars will be sold at the light switch on event.

Christmas at Trinity

Many thanks to the TPSA who have, once again, provided the money to cover the costs for all in school events.  

Thursday Nov 28^th sees the start of Christmas at Trinity.   Christmas clothing is encouraged!  All donations of no longer needed items are very much appreciated – particularly larger sizes.   

The morning will see all our learners work together in their houses to decorate banners and display boards.   Parents and carers able to pop along to lend a hand are very welcome.
