Dear Parents and Carers
As I am sure you are aware the use of screens (both for children and adults) is a growing issue being widely debated. Within that debate there is discussion around screen time in schools. Next week, Wed Nov 4th at 6.00pm, we are holding an evening for P5 – P7 parents and carers about how we use digital technologies at Trinity to enhance learning and teaching.
Digital learning @ TPS : Wed 4th November at 6.00pm – Fill in form
Having received our Digital Schools award I am confident that such technology is used both appropriately and proportionately. For parents in P1 – P4 further information about digital use in the younger years will be issued after this meeting.
However, one of the main issues centres around the time spent on screens outwith schools, the content that is being accessed, when and how it is happening. Sitting isolated in a bedroom, scrolling endlessly through social media and engaging in no discussion around what is being seen is likely to have a negative effect. Watching a film, playing a game or checking out a website, in a social space and chatting with family and friends about it can be very positive.
I really do appreciate that navigating the use of screens with your children outwith school can be challenging and hope that the following might prove useful.
